Yesterday I had the great privilege to be able to share some reflections from the event we hosted last Saturday. Being a voice for young people across the NW, I spoke alongside the metro mayors to a very impressive audience from across the net zero industry!
On Saturday, we hosted the North West Net Zero Youth Conference. Bringing 100 young people from across the region to discuss 4 main points on our future and the climate crisis. The day was split into sessions, covering:
💡 Green energy
🏭 Green jobs and economy
🌳 Green spaces
🚝 Green transport
I was involved in steering and hosting the energy sessions, and some key takeaways that I spoke about and presented to the mayors yesterday included:
👉 Young people’s passion about net zero can be used to educate and influence their families at home and catalyse change
👉 More education is required, but from more sources other than just schools and to be available for everyone
👉 A way to see which businesses / organisations are taking steps to be more green, while considering the challenges smaller businesses face
Listening to the response, it’s inspiring to hear Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham talk about taking control over Manchester’s education, and creating new ways into green jobs – or Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram speaking on Mersey’s Tidal Power, creating green energy and jobs
I look forward to working with the group Youth Focus North West (YFNW) and North West Net Zero Hub next year, taking the events and partnerships to the next level to give young people a stronger voice and help get the NW to Net Zero!
